Ellerslie Cricket Club would like to welcome its new premier player coach for the 2018/19 season, Alan Burton. Alan first came to New Zealand in 2007 after previously playing a high level of cricket in the UK for clubs such as Essex, Northamptonshire and Leicestershire. Upon arriving in New Zealand, Alan was an integral part of the Grafton Cricket Club in Auckland for many years in both a playing and coaching capacity, before retiring from cricket in 2017. However, this season Alan has returned to the game which has been a significant part of his life; a decision largely influenced by his desire to take on a new and challenging role with Ellerslie.
Alan has described his coaching style as hard but fair, with an emphasis on commitment, effort and a willingness to develop. During the Premier Team’s pre-season training, Alan has stressed the importance of working together as a unit and developing team culture. While he has regularly remarked on the talent within Ellerslie’s senior club, Alan strongly believes that team unity is the key to winning the tight contests during the season. While his overall goal is to win a premier trophy with Ellerslie this season, Alan’s other leading objective is to develop the squad into a strong and successful team for years to come.
