2017/18 Senior ReportsSenior Reports: 02 Dec to 18 Feb

3rd Grade

v SNLCC @ Eastdale Reserve 2 (02 Dec & 09 Dec)

Ellerslie: 206/8 dec. (Prathik Kumar 62, Srirag Harish 33) WON FIRST INNINGS against SNLCC: 179 all out (Rohan “Shaq” Dawson 5/17, Sam Edkins 3/33) and 86/2 by 3 wickets

We won the toss and gleefully sent SNLCC in to bat on a pitch resembling the outfield. Edkins channelled his inner Steve Harmison, swinging and seaming the first ball of the match for a massive wide. Fortunes improves as Dhruv Dogra and Edkins made early inroads, leaving Suburbs at 40/3. Things were slow going but the 4th wicket partnership moved the total to 131, before Edkins and Rohan Dawson took wickets in consecutive overs after drinks. Up stepped Dawson with a variety of long-hop wickets and tidy bowling. Dawson cleaned up the tail, leaving us with 180 to chase down.

Prathik Kumar (62) and Srirag Harish (33) combined to score the bulk of the runs. Kumar was outstanding and really took it on his shoulders to see us home. The middle or supported him well. It was a good team effort with both the bat and ball, supporting both Dawson and Kumar.

In a bid to gain points for wickets, we declared, leaving us with 16 oivers to bowl at SNLCC. Attacking fields meant that runs flowed, but we managed to pick up 2 wickets. Good win from the boys.

v Takapuna @ Michaels Ave #1 (18 Feb)

Ellerslie: 149-7 in 24.1 (Dhamindu 45) WON against Takapuna: 147-10 in 35 (David W 3-25, Alan H 3-35, Jono (wk) 4 Catches and a run out. ) By 3 wickets.

Ellerslie vs Takapuna and the first of the competitive rounds. Al Hurst takes the toss, wins and elects to bowl first on an overcast day. Good early bowling from Thush and Ron placed Takapuna on early run rate pressure. Frustration by both openers sees Ron bag a brace of caught behind the wicket. Neil and David continue the momentum and a beautifully disguised slow bowl yorker get the first and only wicket bowled of the innings. Further outswinging and David takes a further two, both caught behind. By the 25th over, Takapuna 103 for 6. Alan H and Nalin take the bowling duties of the innings to a close, with Alan getting three wickets and Nalin 1 wicket. Pick of the bowlers wasThush whose economy rate restricted Takapuna for 14 runs of 7 overs. A run out on the last ball of the innings saw Takapuna finish for 147.

Par score was probably 170 yet Ellerslie needed to get the runs. A great opening partnership (50 runs), got the chase well underway. The key to victory was to run 2’s on the big over. Roshan 25, Russell 15, Vikram 17 and anchoring the innings was Dhamindu’s 45. Ultimately quick fire boundaries from Andrew and on the 1st ball of the 34 over, Jono hits the winning boundary.

Welldone Ellerslie Presidents, first win of the competitive rounds, four more to go to get to the Championship Final. .

Welcome back Ron and with tight early bowling, North shore batsman were restricted to scoring quickly. 14 Runs from 7 overs, 57 runs from 18 overs and effectively the game won. Great early bowling to restrict the opposition.

Come out batters… and batter boom, batter boom. Nice first ball four to Dhamindu but good all round sharing of runs between batters 1,2,3 saw Ellerslie cruise to a good victory.
