Ellerslie Cricket Club

Juniors - Years 3 to 6

Year 3 and 4

Our Year 3 and 4 boy teams play at Michaels Ave every Saturday against other Ellerslie and Cornwall teams following the Kiwi Cricket format.

The games are played using “Incrediballs.” These are soft cricket balls made out of PVC, which have a stitched seam like a real cricket ball. There is no need for pads, gloves or other protective equipment, as the balls are much softer than a real ball.

Games start at 8:30am and run for 2 hours. Each side bats for 20 overs. Each batting pair bats a minimum of 4 overs whether they get out or not. Each player bowls a minimum of 2 overs. The emphasis of the game format is for everyone to have FUN, and to have equal opportunity to develop cricket skills.

Teams will have one practise session during the week.

Year 5

Year 5 is the first grade where a hard leather ball is used and players will be required to wear protective equipment for the first time. All games in this grade will be played at either Michaels Ave Reserve, Point England, or Cornwall grounds.

This competition is run by Cornwall Cricket Club and Ellerslie, and sees teams from both Clubs play one another. It's a good stepping stone toward Youth grades, where players will come up against other teams frequently. Year 6

Our Year 6 teams start to travel around Auckland playing in the Cricket Express Junior Leagues Auckland competition operated and administrated by the Auckland Cricket Association.
