Ellerslie Cricket's Junior Club runs from school year Y1 through to Under 18 players.
Nursery Grade (Year 0, 1 and 2)
Ellerslie prides itself in having a great Nursery grade (Year 1 and 2) for girls and boys, which is run on a Friday evening from 5-7pm. This Grade is run as a skills session for the first hour where the players rotate between skills stations. At each station, players learn different aspects of the game from qualified coaches/senior players - batting, bowling and fielding techniques. During the second hour they play modified games sessions. While this is all happening, parents can relax and enjoy a picnic dinner, sausage sizzle and a glass of wine on the grass bank.
All equipment is provided by the Club. The skills sessions and games are played with a soft ball, plastics bats and plastic wickets. Pads are not required.
The games are modified to introduce aspects of the game in stages. Initially, batsmen will hit balls off a tee, but after a few sessions the players will be running between wickets, bowling to batsman and fielding.
“Nursery grade emphasises FUN for players and the whole family.”
Nursery enrolments are open all season. Please contact Club Manager to join.

Year 3 and 4
Our Year 3 and 4 boy teams play at Michaels Ave every Saturday against other Ellerslie and Cornwall teams following the Kiwi Cricket format.
The games are played using “Incrediballs.” These are soft cricket balls made out of PVC, which have a stitched seem like a real cricket ball. There is no need for pads, gloves or other protective equipment.
Games start at 8:30am and run for 2 hours. Each side bats for 20 overs. Each batting pair bats a minimum of 4 overs whether they get out or not. Each player bowls a minimum of 2 overs. The emphasis of the game format is for everyone to have FUN, and to have equal opportunity to develop cricket skills.
Teams will have one practise session during the week.
Year 5
Year 5 is the first grade where a hard leather ball is used and players will be required to wear protective equipment for the first time. All games in this grade will be played at Michaels Ave Reserve or Cornwall grounds.
Year 6, 7 and 8 Cricket Express Junior Leagues

Our Year 6, 7 and 8 teams start to travel around Auckland playing in the Cricket Express Junior Leagues Auckland competition operated and administrated by Auckland Cricket Association.
Year 9, 10 and U18 Grades
Ellerslie prides itself in always having strong players/teams in these grades ... to be updated
Coaches and Coaching Courses
While the club would like to provide a qualified coach for each team, this is not possible without the help of parents and other volunteers. Ellerslie Cricket Club will provide any person wishing to coach with full support and assistance throughout the season. Provide coaching courses in-house or send them on Auckland Cricket Association course at no extra cost. It’s your chance to spend time with your children and give back to your local community.
