Mid-Week Twilight Cricket

Love cricket, but can't fit it in your weekends after family and fishing commitments. Well here's your chance to bring the old willow out and smash a few over the boundary before dark.

Ellerslie Cricket will be running a 6-a-side twilight cricket competition at Michaels Ave Reserve on Wednesday evenings. Two competitions, pre-Xmas and New Year.

Each team will play one game a week starting at 6pm which will last approximately an hour.

Enter a business team or grab a few mates and join the action!

When

Every Wednesday from 6pm.

Each game will last approximately an hour and after which the club bar is opened and a few sizzlers thrown on the BBQ.

Pre-Xmas tournament runs from November to December.  Starting date to be confirmed.

New Year tournament runs from over February and March.  Starting date to be confirmed.

Cost

Each tournament costs $225 per team. Payable by cheque to Ellerslie Cricket Club or in cash on first game day.

Email a list of all squad members to Neil Gray.  Include the following information for each squad member;

  • Name - first and last
  • Email address - our primary form of contact
  • Phone number - mobile preferred

On the team list, please indicate the primary and secondary contacts.

Cancellations

Decisions on cancellations for bad weather will be made prior to 5 o'clock on a Wednesday and captains will be texted and e-mailed. Cancelled games will be postponed to the end of the tournament, if possible.

Gear

All games are played on Astroturf. No Spikes are allowed.

All gear will be provided by Ellerslie CC.

Rules

  1. All batsman to wear gloves, box and at least one pad.
  2. Each innings will consist 6 overs consisting of 6 balls.  The wicketkeeper is required to bowl as well.
  3. The first 5 overs will only have a maximum of 2 extra balls for wides/no balls (e.g. maximum 8 balls in an over.
  4. There will only be extra balls (above the 8) in the final over of each innings.
  5. Wides are scored as 2 runs.
  6. There are no LBWs
  7. Batsman maybe retired at captains discretion (minimum 6 balls faced) not to return in that innings.
  8. The final batsman will bat on with the fifth wicket staying in as a runner. If the already out batsman is run out then it will be considered the final wicket and innings will close
  9. In order to speed the game up the following common sense rule applies, all batsman to be padded up.
  10. Games will start at 6pm and there will be a toss to determine who bats first. Should a team not be there by 6.15 they will have been deemed to have lost the toss.
  11. Teams will be allowed unlimited squads but can only have 8 players there on the night. 6 will bat and only 6 can field. There can be no substitutions whilst fielding.

Team Points

  • 2 points for a win
  • 1 point for a tie
  • 0.5 bonus point, if a team wins by more than half the required runs or 3 wickets (retirements count as wickets)
  • Should a team be forced to concede one week they will be deducted a point and their opposition will recieve the full 2.5 points.
