v Sri Lanka Machans @ War Memorial #5a (25 Mar)
Ellerslie: 225-5 in 33 Overs (Russell 98, David W 47, John 24*) WON against Sri Lanka Machans: 224-6 in 35 Overs (Ron 3-35 of 7) By 5 Wickets
Championship Final, the Boys were ready and the bad weather stayed away. Ellerslie won the toss, elected to bowl but were unlucky in getting early wickets. Finally, 5th bowling change before the turn and Nilantha struck, however Sri Lanka had a platform to take the match away - 133/1 after 18.
The return of Ron swung momentum back into Ellerslie favour with key players in their middle order removed, one by a sterling catch by Alan Hurst. Ron second spell 3-19 of 4 was the game changer. Nalin shutdown scoring at the other end and Sri Lanka were restricted to 224/6 and would have felt disappointed.
225 to win a Championship with Vikram and Roshan to lead the way. However both fell, Russell had been dropped and Ellerslie were facing 44/2 of 8. David then joined Russell to play out the winning partnership. Russell was not entertaining fours, and David focus was to ensure Russell lasted as long as possible, namely the 18th over and the turn. Russell 1162166612166211611611616622111412 and if he hadn't hit that four, well who knows. David 11111111211112241112144112214 and when David was on 8 , Russell was on 90. More importantly, ECC were 138 for 2 at the turn... and the will of the Machans was pretty much gone. However, Russell being Russell was caught on the boundary out for 98 (ECC 153/3 of 21)... and received much applause from the big crowd now watching the game and 'Thumbs Up' by followers on Facebook SMS (thanks Steve & Raj). Enter Mr Closer - John Peers with David now increasing his strike rate. David fell for 47 and EEC were 195 of 28 overs, 30 runs to win. Mr Closer and David J attained the winning runs and ECC won the championship.
Well done and thanks to all the support given to witness a great Ellerslie Cricket Club day.

v North Shore @ Devonport Domain (18 Mar & 18 Mar)
Ellerslie: 96 all out and 62/7 LOST FIRST INNINGS against North Shore: 167/8 declared
After day one was abandoned, I duly lost the toss on a wicket that looked like it would turn, and we were batting.
A poor start saw us 24/3 before a partnership between Aditya (32) and Matt (40) saw us reach 92/3. We then suffered a massive collapse to be all out for 96.
Our low total gave Shore the opportunity to score some quick runs in the middle session, which they duly did, declaring at tea with a 71 run lead to give us 32 overs to see out the day and save some face.
The batting lineup again failed, placing pressure on the lower order to see us to stumps 7 down for another disappointing days cricket.
Performance of the day: Aditya Edekar 32 and 35

v Takapuna @ Michaels Ave #3 (18 Mar)
Ellerslie: 232-7 of 24.2 (Russell 77, Peter D 44*, Vikram 43, Robbie 32) WON against Takapuna: 231-6 of 35 (Nalin 2-23 of 7. David W 2 Catches. ) by 3 wickets.
Ellerslie Presidents needed a win to ensure home ground advantage in the Championship final. Ellerslie won the toss and elected to bowl, well ... let's just say we bowled, to all parts of the pitch and some not even hitting the pitch. Takapuna at the turn were 121/2 and looking to go big. In the second session, Nalin produced the tidy overs, wickets commenced to fall and Ellerslie restricted Takapuna to 231 - 6.
Two fantastic highlights from the batting... Russell's 77 of 26 balls and Peter D, carrying his bat seeing the target chased down with 4 balls to spare. Supporting roles from Vikram and Robbie and Ellerslie got the win. Well Done - One Win to Go.
Performance of the day: Russell 77, Peter D 44* Carried his bat.
