v Suburbs New Lyn @ Ken Maunder #1 (14 Jan)
Ellerslie: 273-5 in 50 overs LOST against Suburbs New Lyn: 277-8 in 49.2 overs Lost by 2 wickets
After winning the toss, we elected to bat first on a pretty hot day.
A poor start saw us 15-2 in the 4th over. Abrar Alam and Ryan Higgins then put on a 179 run partnership, with Abrar scoring his maiden premier 50 for ECC, and Ryan his maiden century. Some solid hitting from Aditya Edekar and Matthew Wall at the death saw us post a good score of over 270.
Our fielding effort began well with 2 wickets in the first 10 overs, however a couple of good partnerships by the Suburbs middle order kept them in the hunt. Going into the last 10 overs, Suburbs needed 80, with 4 wickets in hand. Some lusty hitting saw them needing 13 off the last 2 overs, which they eventually got with 4 balls remaining.
An incredibly close game which we dominated for the majority of, but just didn't quite do enough to get the win.
Performance of the day: Ryan Higgins 105 and 2-47

v Birkenhead @ Birkenhead War Memorial (07 Jan)
Ellerslie: 202 all out in 47.4 overs LOST against Birkenhead: 204/7 in 43.4 overs by 3 wickets
Ellerslie lost the toss and were sent in. We made a good start, executing the game plan of keeping wickets in hand for the last 10 overs. After being only 2 down at the 28 over mark, our innings then lost a bit of momentum however we still had 5 wickets in hand at the 40 over mark.
v Howick Pakuranga @ Orakei Domain 1 (10 Dec & 17 Dec)
Ellerslie: 216-7 in 43.1 overs (Shikhir Saini 65 , Joshua Allan 52 , Daniel Kerr 41 ) WON FIRST INNINGS against Howick Pakuranga: 127-10 in 43 overs (Srirag Harish 3-18) by 8 wickets
Ellerslie finished 2016 with a good first innings victory over Howick Pakuranga.
After losing the toss and being asked to bowl on day 1 the bowlers made the most of the 33 overs available in the day reducing Howick to 77-7, Srirag Harish the pick of the bowlers with 3-18. When we returned on day 2 the two not out batsman chanced their arm with some fortunate shots to lift the score to 127 all out.
This proved no match for our batsmen though with Shikhir Saini (65 off 74) & Joshua Allan (52 off 83) putting on 104 for the second wicket and setting the platform for some quick runs from Daniel Kerr (41 off 59) and Rohan Dawson (27 off 21) to comfortable secure first innings points and declare with a lead of 89.
Howick's second innings yielded 4 more wickets for us giving us an extra bonus point for the game, a particularly fiery spell from Jeremy Myers the highlight.
4 wins from 6 games so far leaves us in a good position to push for promotion in 2017.
Performance of the day: Shikhir Saini 65 off 74.
